Four years ago, Subaru brought out the very first STI-tuned BRZ, dubbed the Subaru BRZ tS. Under the hood, it was identical to the original, but it was dressed up with upgraded suspension, Brembos, and a front lip. Even if we did want to buy one (which we didn’t) we couldn’t– as they were only available for the Japan market.

Then there was a glimmer of hope; brought to us in form of a STI-tuned BRZ concept car at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. It resembled the original, but had a little bit of added aero, a huge rear wing, and the best part: more power. A more fitting turbocharged flat-four, pushing roughly 300 horsepower, to be exact.
Fast forward to the present and, just a week or so back, Autoblog captured some crystal clear spy photos of what could very well be a BRZ STI. The car features a large rear wing and what appear to be STI emblems hidden (not so well) under some black tape, but there are no signs of any power upgrades as of yet. This means a STI is more than likely coming, we just don’t know when.
But, what better way to is there for Subaru to celebrate their 50th anniversary?
Subaru seems to have deliberately spilled the beans on their Twitter now, though. If the photo they leaked wasn’t enough confirmation, they even included the hashtag #STI and the date June 8th.
We can’t wait to see what happens on the 8th– hopefully it involves boost.
